Redeye Worldwide and Yep Roc Music Group: Zach Stephenson’s Legacy Lives On
Our lad keeps watch in 2023 over the hallowed grounds of independent music where his punk dreams were first realized.
Press Release: Kim Gray’s Album ‘Compulsion’ is Out Now on Bad Diet Records
Kim Gray puts the “om” in Compulsion and bedroom pop, and the sun “ray” in Gray, and the “ay” in “Ay, stop, we’ll cop the album already.” Compulsion: an excellent album for X’ing an ex, and sailing on sans a xan or monitor tan.
Press Release: Greg Ashley’s ‘Living Underground’ is Out Now on Bad Diet Records (We’re Not Trolling!)
Greg Ashley is one of our all-time favorite rockers and masterminds. Our label is strutting like a chinchilla donning a faux-celebrity coat at the Met to announce his Living Underground on Bad Diet. If your cursor were a planchette it would cart every Gris Gris album on the Net, then spell “Your Welcome,” you’d be spellbound.
Press Release: ‘199Oz. -Buzz Clips from Free Weed & Unkle Funkle’ is Out Now (c. 1996) on Bad Diet Records
Somewhere, Chris Cornell, Layne Staley, Harold Hunter and Justin Pierce are blasting 199Oz. Buzz Clips as they hot box the green room of Garry Shandling’s newest meta talk show. In the background, the Gummo scene in Belly is randomly playing on a tv. This is roughly when everyone hears a ghost dog (?!) loudly barking outside in the hall (of fame). Yes, DMX has joined the party. (He’s not on this album. This is a Free Weed album; that’s Free Weed’s dog on the cover, not DMX’s.)
Press Release: The Brainstems’ Album ‘No Place Else’ is Out Now on Bad Diet Records
In the original press release for No Place Else, we called The Brainstems “the greatest band you’ve never heard of.” Bad Diet hereby rescinds our statement. Disclosure: In doing so, we are not kowtowing to online accusations that we’re “completely unimaginative and shit”; rumors that The Brainstems blowtorched our Soft Boys Funko Pops are just that (we have a NECA machete!!!). Truth is: a fat guy in Malibu coined “the greatest band you’ve never heard of” in the ‘70s, copyrighted it in the ‘80s, and threatened to sue us, using fatter lawyers we’ve heard of. Per our agreement: click “Read more” to receive a coupon for $5 off a bottle of Abraxas Mezcal!
Press Release: Free Weed’s Album ‘Introducing’ is Out Now (and Every 4/20 Forever) on Bad Diet Records
You know how Chris Chan is super proud of that DIY Sonichu medallion? Or how Charlie Sheen brushes his hair from his strippers’ eyes when he’s up later studying Party Harder II, Andrew WK’s third autobiography? Or how on ~eight podcasts a week Henry Rollins cherishes his opportunity to have starred alongside Al De Niro in Heat? Well, those personal mirins do not compare to how Bad Diet feels about its debut artist, Free Weed, and our first ever release, and his first solo album, Introducing. When every copy of Introducing totally sold out of our webstore shortly after it dropped? Bad Diet finally knows what it memes to fulfill the dream. Thanks for rocking out, c/o our little rock+punk label.
Kim Gray Dedicates His Album ‘Plastic Memory’ to Bad Diet Records’ Late Founder
The latest from Kim Gray finds the rock savant of Canada flying an asterism of kites across a heady popography of bedhead modern obstacles and darker Tech valleys. Bad Diet didn’t release Memory, but this is one we will never forget. And we are honored that our founder’s memory is part of it.
The Brainstems are Profiled by the ‘St. Louis’ PD (Press Department)
On the iceberg of deep dives into Bad Diet bands, this St. Louis Magazine feature on The Brainstems is Kola Superdeep Borehole tier. We learned a few things. Fathom that.
‘Run the Jewels’ Artist Nick Gazin Creates Comic Book for Free Weed’s Debut on Bad Diet Records
This news has us sunning our jewels, if you know what we mean.
