Bad Diet’s latest release is Free Weed’s follow-up to his album, Introducing (tracks of which were recently singled out on HBO’s acclaimed series High Maintenance). When not boosting listeners’ happiness and lowering their inhibitions as Free Weed, the alphabets know him as Rikky Gage, ringleader of great bands The Memories and White Fang. Gage/Weed has Kurt Loder-ed up a following that exhales mainstream, packing fans like Workaholics’ Kyle Newacheck, Chris “Party Boy” Pontius, the gals of Bleached, and Burger Records (he recorded their “Burger TV” theme).
Like a Kroftt-ian octopus, Gage’s tentacles juggle magic markers, guitars, ‘scripts, and the keys to Gnar Tapes (the dirt-chic Cali cassette label). Remarkably, according to a rock journalist, villagers from the surrounding area swear they “never even saw the long-haired gringo get out of bed.”
