Press Release: ‘199Oz. -Buzz Clips from Free Weed & Unkle Funkle’ is Out Now (c. 1996) on Bad Diet Records

Bad Diet Records has dialed up the modems of Free Weed & Unkle Funkle to present 199Oz. – Buzz Clips. Done sipping that Hi-C, L.A.’s Gnar-punks are slamming the 1990s’ greatest rock anthems—from “Pepper” to “Black Hole Sun”—like a weed grinder onto a desk of pogs…during detention!

Join us, as we hotbox a white Bronco piloted by Star Fox and Spoon Man and roll out to a so-simpler era when juveniles raided Columbia House inventory instead of Reddit posts, when Brendan Fraser’s hair wasn’t a meme, when Batman didn’t shoot dudes, and #Grunge wasn’t data-mined behind the multi-screen.

Bad Diet’s latest release is Free Weed’s follow-up to his album, Introducing (tracks of which were recently singled out on HBO’s acclaimed series High Maintenance). Praised as “blissed out pop” by Noisey, Introducing continues to make Spotify see spots. We know. You’re thinking how can Bad Diet “top that!”? To which we say: that’s an anachronistic Teen Witch reference. Wrong decade. Click on the buzzing paperclip pop-up if you “would to like to know more.”

Produced by Unkle Funkle and mastered by Mikey Young (Total Control), 199Oz. – Buzz Clips features covers of: Ween, Soundgarden, Alice in Chains, Butthole Surfers, Spacehog, and (Free Weed’s requested fave) Third Eye Blind. Each track is as polished and heavy as Matt Pinfield’s dome! We guarantee it. The deluxe version, pressed on blue vinyl, is exclusive to indie stores worldwide and the cozy set of Squirt TV (in spirit).

Double dare we say it’s a great covers album for partying under the covers in mom’s basement if mom was Peg Bundy.

When not boosting listeners’ happiness and lowering their inhibitions as Free Weed, the alphabets know him as Rikky Gage, ringleader of great bands The Memories and White Fang. Gage/Weed has Kurt Loder-ed up a following that exhales mainstream, packing fans like Workaholics’ Kyle Newacheck, Chris “Party Boy” Pontius, the gals of Bleached, and Burger Records (he recorded their “Burger TV” theme).

Like a Kroftt-ian octopus, Gage’s tentacles juggle magic markers, guitars, ‘scripts, and the keys to Gnar Tapes (the dirt-chic Cali cassette label). Remarkably, according to a rock journalist, villagers from the surrounding area swear they “never even saw the long-haired gringo get out of bed.”

In honor of this release, if ya score Weed and Funkle on tour, feel free to bring ‘em gin-and-juice and/or Crystal Pepsi. (No mids.)

1990z. Buzz Clips is mixed by Mikey Young (Total Control); art in homage to KIDS by Dustyn Peterman

RIP: Layne Staley, Chris Cornell, Harold Hunter, Justin Pierce, Chris Farley, Kurt Cobain, Phil Hartman, Scott Weiland, River Phoenix, Brittany Murphy, Anna Nicole Smith, Norm Macdonald, Gilbert Gottfried, DMX, Brad Renfro, and Shannon Hoon (Buzz to the still buzzing Bee Girl)
